New World

A bit of a 40s punk---

                The Nazis were more successful in pushing east against the Soviets in 1943, and their empire lasted until 1947, when a military coup killed Hitler and surrendered to the allies. The world today, is much richer and more peaceful, thanks to more successful efforts to unite through the United Nations, it's also more connected. Computers are getting bigger and more powerful, but they're not for personal use, they're for slowly phasing out humans of many research oriented occupations. The first moon landing was in 1970 (with a joint U.S.-Soviet one), but there has been a larger push to build bases on and colonize the moon since then.

                There's been no Cold War, but various jockeying of multiple powers since the second world war. The Soviet Union has been more genuinely socialist, and, since the killing of Stalin by one of his generals fed up with the purges and blaming Stalin for losing Moscow in 1944, has disavowed Stalin. Given that the West helped to liberate it, it's generally much friendlier with the west. A socialist revolution against the capitalist powers is hardly necessary anyway, since every developed nation is essentially socialist these days (in America, where New Deal programs simply got bigger and bigger, there is a guaranteed universal basic income, and 45% of the population works for the government. Europe is even more socialist). The USSR has branded itself then, as the advocate for the oppressed people of the globe, and the supporter of many African peoples. It still brings up race riots in the U.S. or in South Africa as a propaganda tool (though it glosses over the fact that in the U.S. those were caused by 'Relocation Programs' aimed to desegregate neighborhoods and based off of Soviet people-moving plans). Thanks to Nationalist victory in China in 1951 (after which millions of Communists fled to the Soviet Union) and the emptying out of the Soviet's European territories, the USSR is filled with rather more Asians and Central Asians. European nations banded together in the aftermath of the world wars, and have grown tighter and tighter together (the allied occupations of Germany and Italy considerably helping out in uniting the continent, and mutual fear of a still Francoist nuclear-armed Spain strong). India, separated into nation-states after the end of British rule, but followed Europe's lead in peacefully pulling together.  In the middle east, a political movement similar to the Baathists arose that helped to create another great power: the Arab Union (despised by the more devout states of the Arabian peninsula, and the Socialists in Maghreb).

                The world is dizzyingly uniform. Governments are increasingly everywhere, yet mostly benevolent. Outside of the increasingly present and muscular United Nations exists such nations as Spain, the Swiss (essentially hiding underground with their banks and bomb shelters), the radical jihadists in the Hausa Federation, and the corpocratic vaguely fascistic city state of Singapore. Race relations are still hurting in many places, and feminism and environmentalism have taken off much more slowly and less radically. Social inequality is falling though, and the world seems to be getting its act together.
